Bowers Beach Heritage Day set for Oct. 10

Posted

BOWERS BEACH — Bowers Beach Heritage Day is back, set for Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

After a year away, the town will again celebrate “The Way Life Used to Be," with demonstrations of early crafts, trades and skills.

There will be presentations of flint-knapping and fire-starting, as well as other craftsmen showcasing their skills. Those participating will be Chef Henry Ward (preparing indigenous Lenape Indian food), the Old Trapper (displaying furs and trapping information), For Woodness Sake (demonstrating a foot-pedal-propelled wood lathe), the Zwaanendael Museum (with weights and pulleys), the Greater Harrington Historical Society, the Lewes Historical Society (presenting the history of chocolate), the Thistledown Fiber Guild (spinners and weavers) and others yet to be confirmed.

Rick Hudson, a multi-instrumentalist and acoustic folk singer-songwriter from Dover, will perform throughout the day. During his concerts, he brings listeners on a musical journey filled with original songs, some about Delaware, and other traditional folk tunes.

There will also be an area of modern craft vendors, and food will be available.

The Bowers Beach Maritime Museum will be open with new exhibits, including the story of the steamship Frederica and the display of Paul Shippers’ flint-knapping skills.

At 9 a.m., the day will begin with the very popular Big Thursday on Sunday 5K Walk/Run. Sign up at trisportsevents.com.
