MILFORD - Bill S. Farlow, 88, of Milford, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at Kent General Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. Mr. Farlow was born in Pittsville, Md. the son of the late Ernest and Mildred Farlow. He graduated from Pittsville High School, Pittsville, Md. in 1942. He received his Associate Degree in Business Administration from Beacom College, Wilmington, where he is a member of the Distinguished Alumni Gallery. Bill was a Marine veteran, serving during W.W. II with the Third Marine Division and the Third AMPH Corps in the Pacific and China area. He participated in the repatriation of Japanese servicemen to Japan. He served again with the Marines in 1951 with the Second Marine Division during the Korean Conflict. Bill was employed by Worth Steel Company in Claymont, after graduation. After returning from the service in 1946, he was employed by Milford Memorial Hospital as purchasing agent and assistant administrator until 1951, when he was called back in the Marine Corps. Upon his discharge in 1952, he began work with O. A. Newton & Son CO. as an accounting clerk; and continued work until 1998 when he retired from the position of Vice Chairman and Chief Finance Officer. He was a Director of Newton Leasing and Finance CO., Past member of the Milford Lions Club; Director, Treasurer and Past President of Kent Sussex Industries for 20 years. He served on the Private Industry Council and Vocational Education Council under Gov. DuPont and Gov. Castle. He was one of the founders of Milford Grain CO. in 1974 and served as Director and Secretary for over 20 years; he was Director and Officer of Owens Station Shooting Preserve and Sporting Clays, a member of the Marine Corps Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been an active member of Reformation Lutheran Church since 1954, serving as council member, treasurer and Past President. He was a volunteer for Bayhealth Medical Center. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed growing flowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eva W. Farlow; a daughter and son-in-law Pat and Maurice Little, of Dover; a brother, Joshua, of Pittsville, Md.; a brother-in-law, William Wolter of Greenwood; a nephew, Kevin Gruwell and his daughter Marie, of Felton; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE 19963. Arr. by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
