SMYRNA - Betty Jane Gruwell of Smyrna, passed away peacefully at Courtland Manor in Dover, on Wednesday, July 9, 2013. She was 85. Mrs. Gruwell was born April 21, 1929 in Yeadon, PA the daughter of the late James and Mildred Ryan. Betty was a homemaker who proudly loved and enjoyed her family and extended family. She was a long time member of St. Polycarp's Catholic Church of Smyrna as well as their Women's Sodality. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Gruwell, Sr.; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her son, Chuck Gruwell and his wife, Donna of Camden; three granddaughters, Ashlee Parker and her husband, Matt of Laurel, and Allison and Jenna Gruwell of Camden; and two great grandsons, Brett and Will Parker. A viewing will be held at 9 am on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church, located at 135 Ransom Lane in Smyrna. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 am.
