SALISBURY - Betty Ann Brooks, 69, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Georgetown, Del., she was the daughter of the late Walter Hunter Wharton Sr., and Ida Edna Hudson Wharton.

She and her family were residents of Linkwood for 50 years before moving to Salisbury last year. Years earlier she was an Avon lady and one of her favorite hobbies was collecting dolls.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Ray Brooks Sr., who she married Aug. 4, 1952 in North Carolina; two sons: Willie Ray Brooks Jr. and his wife, Carrie of Hurlock and Donald Brooks and his wife, Ruby of Bridgeville; five daughters: Pat White of Salisbury, Faye Evans and her husband, Bobby of Virginia, Kathy Simonson and her husband, Jim of Preston, Judy Marshall and her husband, Barry of East New Market and Carol Short of Vienna; 17 grandchildren, including four special grandkids, Sam Brooks of Linkwood, Margie McDonald of Seaford, Jason Mowbray of Hurlock and Crystal Bradley of Vienna; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Brooks of Salisbury; two brothers, Walter Wharton Jr. of Eden and George Wharton of Blades and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, June Wright and a brother, Theodore Wharton.

A funeral service was held Sunday, 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Officiating was the Rev. David J. Wooten Jr. Burial followed in Cokesbury Cemetery in Georgetown.
