NEW CASTLE — Brandon Norman, 29, of Bear, was arrested for felony assault after a Sunday altercation on Springfield Boulevard, authorities said.

According to Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, at approximately 5:26 p.m., troopers responded to Springfield Boulevard and Fantail Court in reference to a vehicular crash. Dispatch advised that, following the collision, one of the drivers assaulted the other, then fled the scene on foot, Cpl. Hatchell said.

Upon arrival, troopers learned that Mr. Norman allegedly approached the other vehicle involved in the crash, a GMC Sierra, with an anti-theft club, broke the driver’s side window and began assaulting the operator, a 38-year-old man of New Castle, police said.

Cpl. Hatchell said Mr. Norman also threatened to kill the Sierra’s occupants, including three females, ages 9, 5 and 2.

With the assistance of the DSP Aviation Unit and the New Castle County Police Department, Mr. Norman was located running in the Governor’s Square shopping center, police said. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a hospital for minor injuries.

After release from the hospital, Mr. Norman was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, aggravated menacing, terroristic threatening (four counts), endangering the welfare of a child (three counts) and numerous traffic violations.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released after posting bail on a $26,010 secured bond.
