GALENA, Md. - Barbara E. Turner of Galena died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Turner was born March 9, 1917, in Rock Hall, one of 12 born to the late John and Muriel Elbourn Batchelor.
She and her husband owned and operated a farm in Massey for more than 30 years.
In 1975, they moved to Galena, where she was active with Olivet United Methodist Church and participated in every committee in the church, including trustee and United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Massey Homemakers and worked in the lunch room at Rudnick's for several years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, Garrett Turner; her second husband of 10 years, Arthur Hewlings; her son, Stanley Turner; and her daughter, Mary McClements.
Mrs. Turner is survived by six grandchildren, Marty Holden of Chestertown, Linda West of Altamonte, Fla., April McCrea of Massey, K. Gary Holden of Wilmington, Del., Hope Casey of Clayton, Del., and Garrett Turner of Millington; a son-in-law, Don McClements; two sisters, Dolly Coleman of Laurel, Del., and Edith Bryden of Worton; seven great-grandchildren; and a niece whom she raised, Betty Ann Keen and her husband Dick of Sullivan, Maine.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.
