
DELMAR - Avery W. Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 7, 1933 the son of William C. and Mary M. Smith of Tylerton, Md.
He has been a member of Faith Baptist Church in Delmar for over ten years. He loved everyone there and they loved him, particularly Pastor Ken. His favorite verse in the bible was Psalms 34:19.
Avery worked as a waterman, and at Koontz Dairy, Carvel Hall, Eastern Shore Oil, Mrs Ihries Potato Chips, and K&S& Dutton Bus Service.
He enjoyed traveling with Elsie, his wife, in their motor home to various campgrounds. His favorite sports teams were the Orioles and Ravens. He loved watching his TV and DVD's. He always enjoyed keeping up with friends and family on Facebook while on his laptop. Perry Como was his favorite artist and he collected every song that he sung. He always enjoyed a good meal and was particularly fond of Thanksgiving dinners at home surrounded by all of his family.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Wright Smith and his wife Abigail; and a sister, Lydia Marsh.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie of 66 years; two sons, Frank Smith and his wife Judy of Georgetown, Del., and Bob Smith of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Corey (Lisa) Johnson, Shaun Smith, Lolita Hopkins, Tammy Johnson and Frank (Phyllicia) Smith Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren.
The Going Home service was on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 20304 N. DuPont Blvd, Georgetown, DE 19947 the viewing was one hour prior to service. Pastor Ken Johnson will be officiated the service.
