DOVER - Augustus E. Adams, Sr. "Gus" of Dover passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. He was 82. Mr. Adams was born September 28, 1931 in Natchez, Mississippi to the late St. Elmo Adams and Joan Bishop Adams. He served in the United States Army for ten years and Air Force retiring from the Air Force after ten years of service as a SSGT. After retiring from the Air Force, he and the family chose Spain as their home and lived there and Turkey for 16 years, working for various military contractors before moving to Delaware in 1983, where he worked as an administrative supervisor USAF Civil Service till retiring in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, watching basketball and football on TV and playing solitaire on his IPad. Mr. Adams was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady Perpetual Help Council, No 9098, Bishop Herbert J. Cartwright Assembly. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillie Brown Adams of Dover; son, Augustus Adams, Jr. of Dover; daughters, Dawn Adams-Pickett of Dover and her husband Cedrick Pickett of Boston, Ga. and Heather Adams of Dover; sisters, Vera Walker of Santa Maria, Calif. and Joan Clark of Bakersfield, Calif.; granddaughter, Jasmine Pickett of Dover; and nephew, Dr. Richard Adams of Washington, DC. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Lakeside Cemetery, 558 N. State Street, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
