Smyrna High wrestler Qwantez Watkins was voted this week’s Athlete of the Week after winning the 126-pound title at the Henlopen Conference Tournament over the weekend. The junior posted back-to-back pins before winning by major decision in the finals.
Watkins is 18-10 this season and is seeded No. 2 at this weekend’s DIAA individual state tournament.
According to his nomination for Athlete of the Week: “This kid works hard at everything he does and never gives up. You never hear him talk down to any teammate and or other school’s athletes. He always wishes the best and strives to be number one in all he does.”
“Qwantez is a hard worker and a gifted athlete, who has yet to tap into his full potential,” said Smyrna coach Aaron Harris. “He has a very bright future in the sport.”
