Athlete of the Week: Payton Keeler, Woodbridge High

Posted

Woodbridge High basketball player Payton Keeler was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week. The junior guard helped the Blue Raiders advance to the DIAA state quarterfinals for the second straight season.

In three games, Keeler tallied 48 points, 21 rebounds and 11 steals. She netted 18 points in Woodbridge’s 50-40 loss to Sanford on Monday.

A four-sport athlete, Keeler also plays field hockey, cross country and softball.

“She has stepped into a major role as a captain and a scorer,” said Woodbridge coach Isaiah Robinson. “Payton is a straight ‘A’ student who works hard in the classroom as well as the court. She is a pleasure to have on any team.”

The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.

This process is performed exclusively online. When nominating an athlete, please include name, school and sport as well as a photo and brief description of why he or she deserves that week’s honor.
