Dover High quarterback Nahseem Cosme was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.
The junior ran for 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 12 carries in the Senators’ 34-7 football victory at Hodgson on Saturday afternoon. Cosme scored on runs of 56 and 42 yards while having a third TD run called back because of a penalty.
Cosme, who is is in his first season as Dover’s starting QB, has three touchdowns in the Senators’ first two games.
“He’s doing exactly what we thought he could do,” said Senators’ coach Chip Knapp. “He’s only going to get better. We’re putting a lot on his plate as far as running the offense and making reads. If he has a good game, we have a good game.
“The fact that we see that he’s an explosive runner and can rip off some 50-yard runs, that’s nice to know. Defenses have got to be a little worried about him on top of the other guys we have.”
The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
