Smyrna High girls’ volleyball player Karalyn Osborne was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.
The senior helped the Eagles snap St. Mark’s 42-match winning streak with three kills, three aces, seven digs and 30 assists in a 3-0 victory. For the week, Osborne collected eight kills, eight aces, eight digs and 56 assists in two Smyrna wins.
In 12 matches so far this season, Osbrorne has posted 241 assists, 56 kills, 27 aces, 28 digs, and seven blocks. An honor roll student, she has verbally committed to continue her volleyball career at Wilmington University.
“I would consider her the on-the-floor quarterback,” said Smyrna coach Danny Wandless. “For me, she’s the person out there running the show for us and spreading the ball around. A huge reason why we are where we are is because she’s making really good decisions where she’s putting the ball.
“Everybody knows we have Anna (Richardson) on the outside but there’s other hitters on our team that Karolyn is getting the ball to consistently. That really helps us run our offense.”
