FELTON —Lake Forest High wrestler Jerusalem Howard was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.
The sophomore 138-pounder was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at last weekend’s Henlopen Conference tournament. Howard was trailing 5-2 in the finals when he won by pin in 5:25.
Howard posted all four of his wins by fall in the tournament.
Going into this weekend’s DIAA individual state tourney, Howard was 32-7 this season. He previously finished second in both the Polytech Invitational and King of the Castle tournaments.
Howard has also made first-team all-academic by the Delaware Wrestling Alliance.
“Jerusalem is without question one of the hardest-working kids we have with a motor that never stops,” said Lake Forest coach Mike Hansen. “He also carries a 4.0 GPA (grade point average) and has been awarded the DIAA Academic Achievement Award the last two years at the DIAA state team duals tournament.
“His parents Josefa and Adrian Howard are definitely raising a great young man, that is certainly sure to be successful in whatever he chooses to pursue. He is truly the full embodiment of what all coaches want in their student-athletes.”
