Milford High football player Elijah Lake was voted the State News Athlete of the Week.
The junior ran for 260 yards with four touchdowns on 18 carries in the Buccaneers’ 46-35 win over Sussex Tech on Friday night. Lake finished with 290 yards from scrimmage.
After missing a month of the season with a concussion, Lake has 70 carries for 506 yards with eight TDs.
“Eli, as a player, is one of the hardest workers on the team,” said Milford coach Shaun Strickland. “He is a kid who leads by example on and off the field — the strong silent type — so when he speaks others listen.
“He is not just explosive as a runner but strong. He will either break away in open field, or carry a pile, and we are very lucky to have him on our side.”
The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
