Caesar Rodney High pole vaulter Abby Cholewa was voted the State News Athlete of the Week.
The senior set an indoor Henlopen Conference Meet record after winning the pole vault with a leap of 10-foot, 6-inches. The height was also a school record for Cholewa, who finished second in the DIAA state meet the week before.
Cholewa, who also plays field hockey for the Riders, was one of 15 DIAA Academic Award winners for indoor track & field.
“Abby is an excellent role model on our team and to others in the pole vault community,” said CR coach Mike Tucci. “She’s focused not just on her own success, but on succeeding the right way, overcoming adversity during competition, and being supportive to her teammates and competitors alike.”
