Assault suspect turns himself in to Seaford police

SEAFORD – City of Seaford police report Brayan Hammond, a 31-year-old Laurel man wanted for assault, turned himself in Monday, May 13.

According to Seaford Police Department spokesman Senior Cpl. Eric Chambers, the assault occurred in the 400 Block of North Pine Street Thursday, May 9 at approximately 7:21 p.m.

Seaford officers were dispatched for an assault involving a sharp object. Investigation revealed a confrontation took place between the victim and Hammond after the victim caught Hammond trying to steal property, Senior Cpl. Chambers said.

During the confrontation, Hammond allegedly assaulted the victim, causing lacerations to the victim’s head and ear before fleeing the scene, Senior Cpl. Chambers said.

During the confrontation and assault two children were present.

The victim was treated at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and released.

Hammond was charged with: Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony; Assault in the Second Degree and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Hammond was committed to the Department of Correction in lieu of $25,000 secured bail.
