Arthur J. McGee

SMYRNA - Arthur J. McGee passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at Kent General Hospital. Mr. McGee was born Sept. 24, 1937, the second son of John J. and Catherine (Kitty) McGee in Wilmington, Del. He graduated in 1955 from Salesianum High School and entered the US Marines that same month. The day after his discharge he applied for the Delaware State Police. Before his mandatory retirement (20 years) he joined the Delaware Air National Guard in New Castle as a security policeman from 1978-1985 when he transferred to the Air Force Reserves at Dover Air Force Base and served as a C-5 Aircraft Loadmaster from 1985 till his 60th birthday in 1997. During that time he served in Operation Just Cause in Panama, Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Somalia, Humanitarian Missions, and Presidential Support missions earning 15 awards and decorations. During his retirement he worked in security positions at Dover Downs Slots, DAFB passenger terminal, and with the Federal Protection Service at various Federal Buildings in Delaware. He also served 3 years on the Board of Directors of the DSP Federal Credit Union and he was the hall monitor at the Delaware State Troopers Association Hall, for their functions. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph in 1997; and a brother, Steve in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Theresa (McCabe) McGee; son, Michael J. McGee and his wife Donna; daughters, Mary Virdin of Dover, Kimberly MacDonald and Cheryl Griffin both of Smyrna; brother, John P. McGee of New York; grandchildren, Ashley E. McGee of New Jersey, Tyler McGee of Smyrna and Ronnie Pleasanton with whom he enjoyed breakfast with every Saturday morning in various restaurants. He was a great loving husband, father and poppop, and will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Salesianum High School, 1801 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19802 and or Delaware State Troopers Association, 6349 N.
