Arthur J. Engle

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Arthur J. Engle passed away peacefully on Mar. 4, 2016 at home. Mr. Engle was born on Apr. 25, 1930 in Salem, N.J., son of the late George Tommy Towler and Marie Shuman Towler. After graduating high school he furthered his education at Potomac State College and the University of West Virginia. In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1956 he began his career with Kent County Board of Education, teaching physical education, driver's education and was a coach, for Rock Hall, Chestertown and Kent County High Schools, retiring after over 30 years of service. Art was active in numerous church, civic and school organizations. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Engle; and his sister, Marie Condon. Mr. Engle is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bess Eller Engle; children, Lori M. Benner of Elizabethtown, PA and children, Nicole and Austin (Ally); Thomas A. Engle (Sue) of Lancaster, PA and children, Patrick and Ashley; and Kristi E. King (Franklin) of Cambridge, MD and son, Matthew and a great-granddaughter Adelyn (daughter of Austin & Ally). Private service will be held in Salem County War Veteran's Cemetery, Pilesgrove, N.J. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something special with your family or pass a good deed forward.
