DOVER — A 23-year-old Wilmington man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting in March, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
Diondre Williams had been developed as a person of interest during the investigation into the incident March 26 in the 200 block of Greenwich Drive, authorities said. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop in New Castle County, according to Cpl. Pepper.
She said the case involved a 24-year-old man who was shot in the lower extremity, while seated in a vehicle at approximately 8 p.m. Police said a man approached the vehicle and fired into the passenger side before fleeing.
The vehicle’s driver transported the wounded man to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.
Police also determined through a computer inquiry that Mr. Williams was prohibited from owning and possessing a firearm and ammunition.
Following his arrest, Mr. Williams was transported to Troop 3, Camden. He was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7, Dover, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $181,000 secured bond.
