DOVER — A 19-year-old Dover man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting last year on South Kirkwood Street, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
The case marked the third shooting arrest in nine days by police for separate incidents in the city. An arrest was also made May 10 for a shooting that occurred April 27.
Hassan Perry was taken into custody Wednesday without incident by Dover police officers and members of the U.S. Marshals First State Fugitive Task Force. He was contacted in the parking lot of the Buggy Bath Car Wash at 666 S. DuPont Highway.
Police said a 23-year-old man suffered a non-life threatening injury to the leg during the incident at 6:01 p.m. Sept. 30, 2021. An occupied house was struck by gunfire as well and shell casings were located, police said.
Mr. Perry was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts), second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangering (two counts), and criminal mischief. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $120,000 cash bond.
Other recent shooting arrests included:
• On Tuesday, a 30-year-old Dover man turned himself in to authorities for a shooting on Aug. 8, 2021. A man was wounded in the right pelvic area at a Royal Farms. Police were called to the area for a reported fight at approximately 1:59 a.m. The man was charged with first-degree assault and firearm offenses and then held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $142,000 cash bond.
• On May 24, a 26-year-old Dover man was arrested for an April 16 shooting in front of Irish Mike’s Old Town Pub in downtown Dover. He was charged with first-degree assault, firearm and drug offenses. He was committed to SCI on a $321,000 cash bond.
The Irish Mike’s shooting was the start of a string of 10 incidents in 27 days in Dover. Five individuals were wounded in the surge.
