DOVER — Antoine Burgess, 33, of Dover, was arrested on multiple charges following a Wednesday vehicle pursuit, authorities said.
According to Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, Mr. Burgess was seen driving a vehicle with a canceled registration south on South DuPont Highway at approximately 1:33 p.m.
A trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated away, and a pursuit ensued, Cpl. DeMalto said. The car left the road, traveled through the sports fields at the Kent County Recreation Center and became disabled after striking a fence on Oats Lane, he added.
Mr. Burgess then attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody without further incident, police said. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 0.11 grams of cocaine.
A 22-year-old female passenger was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover with minor injuries.
Mr. Burgess was found to have a revoked driver’s license and active warrants for his arrest.
He was charged with first-degree reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer’s signal, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, driving while suspended or revoked and numerous traffic violations.
Following arraignment through Justice of the Peace Court 2, Mr. Burgess was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $6,012 secured bond.
