Three New Castle County school districts will see contested races for board of education positions in May.
In the Appoquinimink School District, board member Shawn Rohe seeks reelection to her at-large seat May 10. Ms. Rohe is opposed by Nichelle DeWitt, who is running for her first term on the board.
In both Brandywine and Christina, there are two unopposed campaigns.
Brandywine school board president John Skrobot III is seeking reelection in District D, while in Christina, board member Donald Patton is also hoping to maintain his position, running unopposed in District G.
The Red Clay Consolidated School District will see a four-way race for Ashley Sabo’s seat in District C. Ms. Sabo is seeking reelection, competing against Jim Casper, Jordan Edgerton and Vic Leonard Sr.
In the Colonial School District, Leo B. Magee Sr. is running for reelection against Keenan Dorsey Sr. for the District E chair.
Another contested race in Colonial comes after board member Lucy Kennedy announced plans to move closer to her family in Lewes in December 2021, resigning from her District B position.
The Colonial board appointed Christine Smith to fill the seat until June 30, and Ms. Smith will now compete for the remainder of the term — which ends in June 2025 — running against Gail H. Wade.
All other terms determined in May will run through June 30, 2026.
Polls on May 10 will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
