FBN--JETS-FIELDS STARTS
Justin Fields to start at QB for Jets with Tyrod Taylor ruled out against Bengals, AP source says
SUMMARY: Justin Fields will start at quarterback for the New York Jets against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press about the decision. Coach Aaron Glenn had not publicly announced a starter, but Tyrod Taylor was ruled out Saturday with a knee injury. The New York Post first reported that Fields would start and that Taylor wouldn’t travel with the team. Undrafted rookie Brady Cook will serve as Fields’ backup. The Jets remain winless this season with a record of 0-7.

CAR--NASCAR-MARTINSVILLE PREVIEW
NASCAR hoping must-win scenarios at Martinsville will avoid manipulation repeat
SUMMARY: Half of the remaining field in the Cup Series playoffs is facing essentially a must-win situation at Martinsville Speedway, where NASCAR weathered a race manipulation scandal in last year’s third-round finale. NASCAR executives are attuned to preventing a repeat at the Virginia short track, warning drivers and teams during the 2025 playoffs about championship shenanigans and marshaling a beefed-up staff of officials to monitor radio communications for foul play in Sunday’s 500-lap race. But the points breakdown entering Martinsville makes it unlikely that last season’s embarrassing episode, which triggered major offseason rule changes, will recur at the 0.526-mile oval.

FBN--RAVENS-JACKSON OUT
Ravens rule out Lamar Jackson (hamstring) for Sunday; 2-time MVP will miss a 3rd straight game
SUMMARY: Lamar Jackson will miss a third consecutive game with a hamstring injury when the Baltimore Ravens host the Chicago Bears. The Ravens ruled Jackson out Saturday, while also saying he was not in fact a full participant in practice the previous day. Jackson was initially listed as a full participant Friday — and questionable for Sunday’s game. But now the team has downgraded him to out — and said he was actually limited Friday. The Ravens lost to Houston and the Los Angeles Rams without Jackson, and even an open date last weekend wasn’t enough for them to get the two-time MVP back.

US-SPORTS BETTING-ARRESTS-POKER CULTURE
Poker’s NBA-and-Mafia betting scandal echoes movie games, and cheats, from ‘Ocean’s’ to ‘Rounders’
SUMMARY: A big-money poker ring involving NBA figures indicted this week for allegedly cheating unsuspecting rich players echoes decades of films and TV shows, with supposed Mafia involvement adding to the drama. Movies like “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Molly’s Game” and the TV drama “The Sopranos” have depicted similar high-stakes games. George Clooney, linked to those films, joked about the comparisons, saying, “we get blamed for everything.” “Molly’s Game” highlighted the allure of celebrity-filled poker games. The legality of private poker games varies, but they often face scrutiny when hosts profit like casinos. Poker’s portrayal in films has long captivated audiences.

BKN--LAKERS-LUKA’S START
The 40-40 club: Luka Doncic begins the Lakers’ new season with a pair of prolific performances
SUMMARY: Luka Doncic has begun his first full season with the Lakers on a serious heater. The Slovenian superstar is off to one of the greatest starts to a season in NBA history, following up his 43-point effort on opening night against Golden State with a 49-point spree in Los Angeles’ victory over Minnesota on Friday. He’s the fourth player in NBA history to begin a season with back-to-back 40-point performances. He barely missed a triple-double twice, too. His 92 points are the most to start a season in the history of a team that has employed many of the greatest players ever to pick up a basketball.
