Pirates are going to call up Bubba Chandler, baseball’s top pitching prospect

SUMMARY: Baseball’s top pitching prospect is getting called up to the majors. A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that the Pittsburgh Pirates have decided to promote 22-year-old right hander Bubba Chandler ahead of their game Friday against the Colorado Rockies. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the roster move was not yet official. Chandler got off to a hot start in Triple-A this year but has stumbled lately and is currently 5-6 with a 4.05 ERA this year for Indianapolis. The Pirates are shuffling their pitching rotation after sending veteran left-hander Andrew Heaney to the bullpen.

World Boxing will require sex testing for fighters before world championships in September

SUMMARY: The governing body for Olympic-style boxing will require sex testing for all fighters wishing to compete in the women’s division at its world championships next month. World Boxing already had announced its plan to require competitors to undergo a polymerase chain reaction test or an equivalent genetic screening test to determine their sex at birth. It announced Wednesday that the rules will be implemented ahead of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England, in early September. The tests identify the presence or absence of Y chromosome genetic material as the indicator of biological sex.

Tiger Woods to lead group that could reshape the PGA Tour’s competitive model

SUMMARY: The first move by the PGA Tour’s new CEO is to put Tiger Woods in charge of a committee to study the competitive model. Brian Rolapp held his first news conference since replacing Jay Monahan as the person in charge. Woods is chair of the nine-member “Future Competition Committee.” It will have a blank canvas to look at the model. Rolapp says the idea is to uphold traditions without being bound by them. He says he wants what’s best to strengthen the tour. But when asked about LIV Golf, he felt the best players already are on the PGA Tour.

Norway soccer federation says it will donate profits from Israel game to humanitarian work in Gaza

SUMMARY: Norwegian soccer’s profits from hosting Israel in a men’s 2026 World Cup qualifying game will be donated to humanitarian work in Gaza. The Israeli soccer federation responded urging its counterpart also to condemn the October 2023 fatal attacks and hostage-taking by Hamas. Israeli soccer officials also asked their Norwegian counterparts to “make sure that the money is not transferred to terrorist organizations.” Norway plays Israel in Oslo on Oct. 11 likely as the leader in a five-nation qualifying group. Tickets go on sale next week and the Norway soccer federation has pledged the profits “to a humanitarian cause.”

CAR--NASCAR-2026 SCHEDULE

NASCAR’s 2026 schedule shake-up: New street race, Chicagoland’s return, and more

SUMMARY: NASCAR has announced its 2026 schedule, featuring a new street course in San Diego and the return of Chicagoland Speedway. Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed passes physical and is removed from PUP list

SUMMARY: Tennessee cornerback L’Jarius Sneed passed his physical, and the Titans removed him from the physically unable to perform list in time for practice Wednesday. The two-time Super Bowl champion was part of the Titans’ big offseason spending spree in March 2024. Sneed played in five games before landing on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury. Sneed said during an offseason camp that he was as healthy as he’s been. But the Titans put him on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, with team officials saying Sneed had a cleanup of a knee in May. Will be updated following practice.

Missouri State and Delaware are making a historic, risky leap to FBS amid college sports upheaval
