DOVER — Gourmet pizza lovers are in for a treat — Pie Five Pizza Co., a speedy, custom pizza franchise is headed to Dover this fall.
“It’s a Chipotle-style set up, where you go down the line and choose all the toppings you want while the pizza is made right in front of you,” Mashoor Awad, local franchisee of Pie Five, said.
Customers start their order by choosing one of four crust options — thin, classic pan, multi-grain or gluten-free — followed by seven sauce options and four cheese choices.
“This business is taking pizza to a whole new level,” Mr. Awad said. “It’s totally personalized for the customer and there’s something for everyone.”
As far as toppings go, as many as you want can be added for no extra charge. There will be eight meats to choose from and more than 15 fresh veggie choices.
After all the toppings are added, the pizza goes into the oven, but it’s no ordinary oven. Pie Five uses a super-heated oven that only takes 145 seconds to bake.
Patrons can either dine in or take out, but Mr. Awad suggests dining in because their pizzas taste best when they’re fresh out of the oven.
“I’ve been in the restaurant business all my life and this is a revolutionary idea and the food really is amazing,” Mr. Awad said, He owns six IHOPs and previously has run Subway franchises.
All Pie Five pizzas come in one size, 10 inches, and sell for about $7 each.
If none of more than a million pizza combinations is what you’re craving, Pie Five also sells made-to-order salads and a few different desserts to top off your meal.
After the Dover location opens, Mr. Awad plans on opening restaurants in Middletown, Newark and Wilmington.
Pie Five was founded in Texas in 2011 and now has more than 47 locations in 13 states, and is expanding rapidly. In addition to the locations Mr. Awad is opening in Delaware, another 20 locations are set to open in Eastern Pennsylvania/Philadelphia, Northern Maryland and Southern New Jersey.
An official location will soon be announced, but in the meantime, more information about Pie Five can be found online at piefivepizza.com.
