DOVER - Anne Harris, of Dover, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 21, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85. She was born in Wilmington, on Feb. 10, 1927, to the late John A. Sheridan and Mary Agnes Simkins Sheridan. Mrs. Harris graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moyan, Pa., in 1944. In 1948 she married Charles R. Harris Sr. and moved to Dover in 1955. She was employed at Cook and Smith Florist, and worked with her husband at the American Mushroom Institute. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be forever in our hearts. Mrs. Harris was a 35 year breast cancer survivor. She belonged to numerous bridge clubs and enjoyed knitting. She was a former member of the Junior Board of Kent General Hospital, the Dover Dance Club and Dover Century Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Harris Sr., 9/1/07; brothers, John, Francis, and Joseph Sheridan; sisters, Margaret Montgomery, and Mary John Sheridan, OBS. Mrs. Harris is survived by her three daughters, Christine S. Faulkner of Dover, Louise F. Andrews and her husband Jon of Dover, and Melissa A. Miller and husband Gary of Harrington; four sons, Rev. Jeffrey S. Harris and wife Gloria of Liberty, S.C., Mark R. Harris of Dover, Kevin C. Harris, and wife Cheryl of Clayton, and Msgt Charles R. Harris Jr., USAFR, and fiancée Traci Fahey of Dover; 11 grandchildren, Alicia Deese and husband Bob, Jonathan R. Andrews II, Jeffrey Harris Jr. and wife Susan, Jason W. Andrews, David M. Harris and fiancée Kim Waldrop, Matthew D. Miller, Sarah E. Miller, Rachel C. Harris, Jennifer L. Harris, Hannah G. Harris, and Ryan K. Harris; and three great-grandchildren, Michelle F. Andrews, Ila C. Deese, and Peyton Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc., 165 Commerce Way, Suite 2, Dover, DE 19904.
