Ann Nichols Stoops

Centreville - Ann Nichols Stoops passed away on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015. She was born on May 21, 1933 in Greensboro, Md. to the late Charles and Bertha Nichols. Ann worked outside at Playtex prior to marrying her high school sweetheart William(Bill) F. Stoops, III when he returned from serving in the US Coast Guard. After their son Billy was born she became a fulltime homemaker. Centreville would become her home for the next 60 years. Ann adored her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandson. Ann was a good cook and loved preparing meals for her family. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She enjoyed having everyone at her home for gift exchange and her over the top meal. Until recently she would help serve the dinner for the Centreville Lions Club meetings at the Centreville Methodist Fellowship Hall. Ann will always be remembered as a quiet, sweet lady, with a kind and loving heart. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. The love of her life Bill passed away in August 1990. In addition to Bill and her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Billy and sister Betty Shulties. Ann is survived by her son, William E. Stoops and wife Eva of Centreville; daughter, Terri Stoops Layton and husband Mike of Harrington, Del.; five grandchildren, Michael Layton, Jr.(Brandi) and Andrew Layton(Whitney) all of Felton, Del., Britnie Johnson(Tim) of Lakewood, Colo., Melissa Stoops and Geneva Harrison both of Centreville, great-grandson Liam Michael Layton of Felton, Del., sister Ruth N. Dean of Harrington, Del., brother-in-Law Richard Stoops(Victoria) of Dover, Del., numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and eight great-great nieces and nephews. Ann also had a special place in her heart for Lisa Clark Walls(Dennis) and their daughter Taylor. A funeral service for Ann will be on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. A visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Greensboro Cemetery following the service.
