CRISFIELD - Alonzo K. 'Buddy' Nelson of Crisfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield. Born in Crisfield on Feb. 15, 1929, he was a son of the late Alonzo K. and Erma Lawson Nelson. A 1946 graduate of Crisfield High School, he was a retired postal clerk at the Crisfield Post Office where he worked 30 years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where he served on various boards and committees over the years. He was also a member of the Stanley Cochrane Post #16 American Legion, VFW Post #8274, and the Crisfield Chapter of AARP. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Eleanor Ward Nelson of Crisfield; a son, Michael Nelson and his wife Diane of Salisbury; a daughter, Melinda Sterling and her husband Ronnie of Crisfield; six grandchildren, Rachel Colby and her husband Henry of Fruitland, Sarah Mister and her husband Woody of Westover, Josh Nelson of Salisbury, Danny Pusey of Hebron, Kelly Sterling of Crisfield and Scott Sterling of Crisfield; two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Dillon Mister of Westover; a brother, George L. Nelson and his wife Julie of Glen Burnie; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Spires. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, where friends called from noon to 1 p.m. The Rev. Sally Russum officiated. Interment followed in Asbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Asbury U.M. Church Memorial Fund, c/o Beth Clough, 28155 Coulbournes Court, Marion Station, MD 21838.
