Allen Richard Blodgett

DOVER - Allen Richard Blodgett passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 87. Allen was born April 25, 1926 to Elsa (James) and Forrest Blodgett in Ithaca, N.Y. He was watching an early Roy Rogers movie at the local theatre when the movie was interrupted by the Declaration of War. At 18, he joined the Army's 97th Field Artillery Battalion at New Caledonia and served proudly at Leyte and Manilla before being discharged. Allen received his B.S. In Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an M.S. Degree from Syracuse University. He was employed as an electrical engineer with General Electric until his retirement. Allen was a lifetime Honorary Member of the Electrical Engineer's Society, the Civil War Round Table, and the Modern maturity Golf League. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, scuba diving, tennis a and was an avid golfer. Allen was always ready for a heated discussion concerning politics and current events. Allen was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church and in more recent years attended Calvary Assembly of God, Dover. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Blodgett. Allen is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Janet Sang-Blodgett; two daughters, Dr. Sue Blodgett (Dr. Andy Lenssen) of Ames, Iowa, and Marty Blodgett of Ithaca, N.Y; a son, Michael Blodgett of Tucson, Ariz.; stepchildren, Dawna Dewire (Andy) of Wellesley, Mass., Dr. Fred Travis (Anita) of Fairfield, Iowa, Deborah Stogner (Jerry) of Greenwood, and Pamela Herrmann (Douglas) of Magnolia; a sister, Kathryn Partyka of Rockport, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 in Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover, DE. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com
