ARLINGTON, Texas - Alfred G. Donofrio, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014, in Arlington, Texas. Al was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Rochester, N.Y., to Luigi and Francesca Donofrio. He left high school to join the Navy and served in World War II. After returning he joined The Reserve while he completed high school and went to St. Bonaventure University. Al was recalled by the Navy where he proudly served in the Korean War as a Marine medic. Upon returning home he completed his college degree from St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. After completing his degree, Al and his family moved to Dover, where he pursued his career. He worked at International Playtex Corp from 1956-1975, during which he moved to Canada for two years and then New Jersey where he was the international controller. Al then moved to El Paso, Texas where he worked at Farah International as a VP and treasurer from 1975-1979. He then moved to Arlington, Texas and worked for The Boy Scouts of America as controller from 1979-1990s. Once Al left the Boy Scouts he devoted his time working with a small company in which he had part interest, developing and implementing accounting software for small businesses. He then semi-retired during the 1990s, but retirement was not for Al, with his love for accounting he continued to do accounting and taxes for small businesses and individuals into his late 70s. Al was a truly caring person, he was a member of The Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years. He dedicated his volunteer time to Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels, welcoming our troops home at DFW airport, the VFW and the American Legion. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Francesca Donofrio; his brothers, Pat and Anthony Donofrio; and his sister, Mary Paris. He is survived by his beloved children, Diane Chambers of Magnolia, Sharon Shockley of Harrington, and Tom Donofrio and his wife, Josephine, of Highland Village, Texas; his grandchildren, Brian and Michael Chambers, Monica Matthews, Natalie, Marisa and Thomas Donofrio; 11 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Sr. Ann D'Assisi, Yolanda Ruggeri, Eleanor Piendel; and a brother, Louis Donofrio Jr., all of Rochester, N.Y.; and a sister, Jane Passiano of Hernando, Fla. Services were held in Texas concluding with a Mass of Christian Burial. Al's cremated remains will be laid to rest at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
