Medford Steele, 81 MILFORD - Albert "Al" Medford Steele passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 with his family by his side at Harbor Health Care & Rehabilitation in Lewes, Del. He was born in Wilmington, DE on March 1, 1931, son of the late George and Irene (Hall) Steele. Al honorably served his country in the US Army and Air Force for 21 years. During his time of service he was stationed in Germany and actively fought in the Vietnam War for over a year. Following retirement from the military, he started a second career working for the City of Milford Electrical Department. Later, Al worked with the Civil Service Department at Dover Air Force Base and then was a driver for Kent-Sussex Industries. Al was a member of the American Legion Post 28, Millsboro, DE, VFW #6483 and DAV, both of Milford, DE, and also the Milford Senior Center. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating, but most of all he enjoyed being a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. Mr. Steele was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Lou (Ritter) Steele; and his sister, Margaret Hockman. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Steele of Lewes, Del.; his son, William Steele and his wife Mona of Milford, Del.; his half brother, Alvin Steele of Seaford Del.; and his four grandchildren, Jennifer Wootten, Samantha Steele, Janey Emory, and Stevie Steele. A memorial service with Military Honors was held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 7 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Del., where friends called beginning at 6p.m. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
