SMYRNA - Albert "Buddy" Lucks, son of Julius and Wanda Zabel Lucks, passed peacefully from this life on Feb. 19, 2013. Now he sits on that white-washed fence that surrounded the home place so many years ago. Brother Bill is on his left, brother John his right. All three are laughing. A laughter only brothers can share. The two older Lucks brothers tease him. In the background eldest brother Henry hollers, "Stop teasing Buddy, mom and pop need that plowing done!" Sister Lydia smiles as she watches her brothers from a window of the tall brick house where her baby brother was born. His afterlife moves forward, "Uncle Bud" spends time with his beloved niece Beverly. He tells her how proud she and Joe would be of their children, Kevin and Kim. He walks on, smelling sea air now. In a mist he can see his dear friend and brother-in-law, Bill Trice holding the boat and waving Buddy aboard. Their laughter can be heard throughout with the anticipation of another fishing trip. Buddy smiles, hearing a familiar voice. He turns and receives a welcoming hug from sister-in-law, Maude. He's standing now, in the warm sunlight of his 16 acres. The wind whispers through the Christmas trees grown there, the sun reflects off the pond that gives water to his pole beans and prized tomato plants. A familiar sound in the distance catches Al's attention. An airplane. He remembers the 30 years he spent, in a labor of love, at Atlantic Aviation. He thinks of friends who shared his love of aviation and knows to be truly grounded, he needed to spread his wings too. From his favorite place, his garden, he glances at the house hoping to catch a glimpse of Betty, his wife of 60 years. He doesn't see her yet, but he knows she's there, waiting, because their lives are for eternity. He walks on and is greeted by many more friends and family who have been waiting for him. Friends from his time spent in the military, serving his beloved country. Friends from the farming community, fellow Christmas tree growers, fisherman, airplane enthusiasts, neighbors and loved ones who have gone on before him. But there's still one he has not found. He's been looking for so long, picturing in his mind what the reunion who be like. He's missed her so much and waited over 50 years to feel her hand on his face. And then, there she is, arms outstretched, calling his name and with tears through their smiles suddenly he is in her arms! With the voice of an angel, his mother says "it's okay my baby boy, you're home now." My mother, Betty Hubbard Lucks, my husband, Jeff Shahan and I, Kathleen Lucks Shahan would like to thank all the wonderful people who have cared for my father for the last six years, including Dr. Vineet Puri, Dr. Sambhab Kumar, Patrice McDowell and all the loving, caring people of Westminster Village. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where a gathering will be two hours earlier. Burial will be private.
