WORTON, Md. - Albert F. Baxter, 87, of Worton, died Feb. 24, 2012, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. Mr. Baxter was born on Sept. 10, 1924, son of the late J. Albert and Bertha Hunter Baxter. He had lived within a 10 mile radius of Chestertown his whole life and was a 1942 graduate of Chestertown High School. A lifetime farmer where he owned and operated Chestnut Ridge Farm since 1959. He retired from dairy farming and became active with harness racing. He was a member of the Holstein Association and had served on the Board of Directors with Southern States. Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Marie Cook Baxter in 2003; a sister, Mary Katherine Emerson; a grandson, Officer Michael Nickerson; and son-in-law, Alan Jewell. He is survived by five children, David F. Baxter (Diane) of Worton, Thomas Baxter (Carol) of Hartley, Del., Sue Nickerson (Joe) of Lynch, Ann Jewell of Lynch, and Jay A. Baxter (Carole) of Worton; two brothers, John F. Baxter of Worton and Robert Baxter of Kennedyville; two sisters, Louise McMahan and Sue Jane Wright, both of Chestertown; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Monday evening, Feb. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, and on Tuesday from 11 to noon, where funeral service will begin at noon. Burial in Union Cemetery, Worton. Memorials may be offered to Union Cemetery, c/o Carolyn Cooper, 127 N.
