Bolden, 81 SEAFORD - Addie N. Batson Bolden, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Hattie Batson, made her grand entrance into eternal rest on Monday, February 15, 2016. She was the fifth child of 15 children. She was 81 years young with a strong mind-set of taking care of others by giving of her time, resources, and energy. Addie was born October 4, 1934 and was raised in the Seaford area, attending Trinity Elementary, Blocksom School and Frederick Douglas. She then went to William C. Jason High School in Georgetown until she withdrew to get married to Drexel Lee Bolden, Sr.; she later went to night school to get her High School Diploma. Addie has always loved children and although she has given birth to eleven, she has "mothered" (grandmother, god-mother, etc.) countless others. She has worked at the Seaford Head Start, Associated Charities, Delaney Produce, Harrison House, and numerous private care tenures for the elderly, sick, and shut-in. It was not unusual for people to come up to Addie acknowledging her kind-heartedness and remembering the care that they received from her. Mother Addie has been a soldier in the Lord's army for decades! She began her spiritual walk at Bethel United Methodist Church and eventually became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy under the leadership of the late Bishop Ivory J. James. She served in the Pastor's Aid Committee, Missionary, Usher Board, and Sunday School, to mention a few. Her membership has since transferred to New Birth Church of God under former Pastor Stanley Ricketts and current Pastor Donald Moore. There, Mother Addie has been a valued active member serving in many capacities. Yet, she still found time to support others including Storm Shelter Ministries, Pastor Leonard Eley, where she participated in their Elisha's Hostess Women's Prayer Breakfasts. She was also a member of the We Care Truckers Organization. Mother Addie's love and commitment to the Lord has motivated her to work and to press her way right up until December 2015 when she could no longer get up and go and drive. But, even then, she was often trying to figure out what she could do to help. Addie's husband, Drexel Lee Bolden, Sr. and one of her eleven children, Cassandra Irene Bolden, and her grandson, Jermaine Lamont Bolden, have all preceded her in death. Of her brothers and sisters, the following have gone on ahead of her: Mary Cook, Martha President, Alfred, Charles, William, Jeremiah, Thomas, and Grace Batson. Left to cherish her memories and to celebrate her life are the following: siblings, Lewis Batson (Rosalie), Jerry Batson, Pearl Lofland (Leon), Doris Ann Batson (Jural), and Shirley Batson, all of Seaford, and George Batson (Vanessa) of Cambridge, Md.; children, Drexel Bolden, Jr. (Shelly), Selena Bolden, Bertha Ricketts (Ernest), Grace Wilson (Vance), Nathaniel T. Bolden, Sr. (Teresa), Jacqueline Bolden, Sylvester Bolden, Penny Bolden, Reuben Bolden, and Dwight Bolden. Mother Addie has an approximate count of 44 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, two great great grands, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives! She has indeed left a legacy of faith, hope, and love. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Seaford Wesleyan Church "The Ark", 26630 Sussex Hwy., Seaford, where friends may call on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Arrangements by the Cranston Funeral Home, Seaford.
