HARRINGTON — Two 10-year-old boys were among five kids arrested in three unrelated incidents recently, Harrington Police said Monday.

The 10-year-olds allegedly conspired with an 11-year-old boy when breaking into a parked school bus, damaging seats and stealing fire extinguishers on Sept. 5, authorities said.

Other vehicles parked in the lot in the 300 block of Walt Messick Road were broken into and items were taken, police said.

The juveniles - all Harrington residents - allegedly moved the school bus to another spot on the property with a key, according to investigation. The movement triggered cameras to engage and record the movement, which led to identifying the suspects, police said.

Harrington Police obtained arrest warrants and the children turned themselves in to authorities for processing. Charges included third-degree conspiracy, two counts of theft under $1,500, criminal mischief under $1,000 and third-degree criminal trespass. The boys were turned over to their parents after a future appearance in Kent County Family Court was scheduled.

While he said juvenile arrests were common, Harrington Police Capt. Earl K. Brode said, “I can’t recall any arrests younger than 10 without researching it.” Most charges involve fighting, he said.

Harrington Police did not disclose the juvenile suspect’s names when announcing the arrests.

Two 14-year-old girls were arrested in separate offensive touching incidents on Sept. 13, police said.

Patrol officers were called to the first block of East Street for an assault complaint involving a teen and an alleged adult victim. According to police, the suspect confronted another female and was confronted by her mother when the alleged assault occurred.

The juvenile suspect - a Harrington resident - left the area before police arrived and arrest warrants were obtained. The girl later turned herself in to police and was charged with offensive touching and disorderly conduct.

The child left the police department with her parents, pending an upcoming Family Court hearing.

Another teen girl was arrested for offensive touching after an alleged fight in the area on Mispillion Street near West Street, police said.

Patrol officers arrived at approximately 5 p.m. and found a juvenile suffering from minor facial injuries due to an assault. Investigation identified a suspect and warrants were obtained.

The girl turned herself in to police and was charged with offensive touching. She was released to her parents pending a future Family Court date.
