EAST NEW MARKET - Willie Terry Thompson Sr., 68, of East New Market, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, in a fatal car accident on Oxford Rd. Born Nov. 16, 1943, in Bacton Georgia, son of the late Hattie P. Thompson and Robert Lee Thompson Sr. Willie began his early education in the Mitchell County, Ga., school system; after moving to Secretary, Md., in 1946, he was enrolled in Maces Lane High School and was a member of the Graduating Class of 1962. Willie married Gloria (Jolley) Thompson on April 21, 1963. From this union they were blessed with seven children. Mr. Thompson was a member of the National Church of God in East New Market along with his wife. He held several positions in the church over the years serving a member of the Victorious Gospel Singers and he also enjoyed playing the guitar, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Usher Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and he performed various maintenance duties around the church as needed. A couple of his favorite scriptures were Psalms 34:1 and Psalms 91:1. One of his favorite songs that you would find him singing was "In the Morning When I Rise." His work experience started at Parkers International in Hurlock as a mechanic for 17 years. In 1981, he was hired at Robert M. Harper & Sons in Preston as a HVAC technician and was currently working for Griffith Energy Services (formerly known as McMahon Oil) at the time of his death. Those who shared his life and will miss him dearly are his faithful wife of 48 years, Gloria Thompson; sons, Corinthian (Tyrine) Thompson and Deanglo (Melissa) Linthicum of Hurlock, Timothy Thompson of East New Market, Willie Thompson, Jr. and Bradford Thompson of Baltimore, Derrick (Tonya) Thompson; and one daughter, Patrice Thompson of Cambridge; 23 grandchildren; his siblings, Brannie Pearl Greene of Orlando, Fla.; Bishop Robert Lee Thompson, Jr. of St. Michaels, Agnes Allen and Helen Toby Freeman of Easton, Hattie Boston of Union Springs, Ala., and Eddie Thompson of Quantico, Md.; one uncle, Dempsey (Vera) Thompson of Chicago, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Thompson Sr.; a brother, Ruben Thompson; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer A. Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Pastor Georgene O. Thompson. Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, 3 p.m., at Bethel AME Church, 623 Pine St., Cambridge, Md. There is no public viewing. Interment in Federal Hill Cemetery, Federalsburg, Md.
