William Thomas Murphy, 88

CAMBRIDGE - William Thomas Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in Dorchester General Hospital, after a short illness. He was 88. He was born in Cambridge on Aug. 15, 1920, to the late Horace and Melissa Travers Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a farmer. He was an avid fisherman and hunting enthusiast. He is survived by several step-children, Donald Stump, of Florida, Robert Stump and his wife Joan, of Cambridge, Brice Stump, of Princess Anne, and Arlene Burton and her husband Rodney, of Cambridge; a niece, Melissa Robbins, of Cambridge; two nephews, Philip Jackson and Ralph Jackson III; a brother-in-law, Ralph Jackson Jr., of Cambridge; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Stump Murphy; a step-son, Howard Stump; a sister, Sarah Jackson; and a brother, Horace Murphy. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Philip Jackson, Kevin Morgan, Ralph Jackson III, Herbert North Jr., Brice Stump, and Norman Schuyler.
