William J. Gordy

SALISBURY - William John "Bill" Gordy died Monday, Apr. 3, 2017, at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. Born in Laurel, he was a son of the late King Edward Gordy, Sr., and Sally Tracey Gordy.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and retired from Preston Trucking at age 70. He was a proud recipient of the million-mile safe driving award and continued driving commercially until December 2016.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin, George and Edward King Gordy; sister, Marion; as well as son, Daniel Hastings.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Catherine Gordy; son, David Gordy; daughters, Georgia Wolfe, Deborah Hastings and Teresa Webb;three grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Arlene, Eileen, Dot, Imogene and Jane; and brothers, Donald and Bobby.
A funeral service was held Friday, Apr. 7, 2017, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment with military honors followed at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
