Wild turkey summer observation survey accepting online reports through Aug. 31

ANNAPOLIS — Now through Aug. 31 the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is asking citizens to keep an eye out for wild turkeys and report what they see through an online reporting form.

DNR conducts an annual survey to monitor turkey populations to help explain and predict local or regional population changes. Each time you see wild turkeys, a report of the date, county, and number of hens, poults (young of the year) and adult gobblers is being collected, or you can record them as “unidentified” if you cannot be positive about their sex.

All turkeys seen should be reported, not just large groups or broods. A guide to help determine sex and age can be found here online. The reporting form begins here.

DNR asks participants to avoid reporting duplicate sightings, for example if you see the same number of hens and poults in the same location over several days.
