FRUITLAND - Walter Childs Sparks, Sr. died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at his home. Born in Beattyville, Ky., he was the son of the late Stanley Sparks and Georgia Lyons Sparks Stevens. A U.S. Navy veteran of 19 years, he was a member of American Legion and VFW and also attended Salisbury Baptist Temple. He was a lifetime carpenter and painter. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ward Sparks; two sons, Walter C. Sparks, Jr. and Francis Sparks; and a sister, Agnes Gilbert. He is survived by three children, Georgia L. Pruitt of Fruitland, Mavis K. Weisenburg of Princess Anne and Clemmie C. Sparks of Snow Hill; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Stevens of Cincinnati. A funeral service as held Dec. 18 at Salisbury Baptist Temple. Interment with military honors followed at Greenback Cemetery in Greenbackville Arrangements were in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
