Vernon Grayson Caldwell, 92

HUNT VALLEY - Vernon Grayson Caldwell, formerly of Hunt Valley, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. He was 92 years old. Vernon was born on April 2, 1917, to the late Robert Caldwell and Loretta Helmling in Baltimore. He grew up on Fulton Avenue in Baltimore City and was a graduate of PolyTech High School. He began working at Glen L. Martin with engineering and production. In late 1948 Vernon established Caldwell Casting in Baltimore City on Falls Road where he served the military. He relocated the business to Cambridge where he continued to operate and run the company until the present. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and competition ballroom dancing. Vernon was an active member of the Cambridge Yacht Club where he served as Fleet Captain. Vernon is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine Anne Caldwell of Hunt Valley; beloved daughter, Susan Ayres and her husband Ronald of Monkton; two brothers, Robert Caldwell of Florida and Ronald Caldwell of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Barbara Caldwell of Pasadena, and Leona Hyde of Pasadena; two loving grandchildren, Christopher Ayres and his wife Nichole of Parkton, and Matthew Ayres and his wife Tiffany of Queenstown; four great-grandchildren, McKinnely and Grayson Ayres of Parkton, and Allison and Trevor Ayres of Queenstown. Family and friends may call Thursday, April 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at St Paul's Episcopal Church, 301 S. Liberty Street, Centreville. Online condolences may be made at www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
