WESTOVER — For the last several years all 5th grade students in Somerset County Public Schools have traveled to UMES for a special health and career day, and they will be back on the Princess Anne campus Friday, May 8.
The program will start at 9:05 AM in the Student Center. Supervisor of Elementary Student Services Renee McLaughlin will introduce individuals and provide the overview. The students will be welcomed by UMES President Dr. Julliette Bell, followed by remarks of encouragement from Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Gaddis.
Career planning software known as Naviance will be explained by WAHS school counselor Chari Jones.
Robbie Leisler from Otherside Produce will speak to the students about healthy eating. He will be followed by representatives from aviation sciences/engineering, foreign language center, professional golf management and pharmacy who will discuss the related career fields and education required. Students will have lunch, tour the campus and return to school in the afternoon.
This event emphasizes the necessity for students to believe in themselves, "know in your heart that you can achieve goals", work hard in school and in life, thing big and dream.
