PRINCESS ANNE — Junior men’s basketball forward Iman Johnson (Milwaukee, Wisc.) and senior women’s basketball guard Shawnee Sweeney (Chester, Va.) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on December 22. Both athletes are being named for the first time this year.

Making his first start of the season, Johnson did not disappoint against Old Dominion last Friday. He went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor to score eight points while pulling down a season high seven rebounds and dishing out three assists, also a season high. Playing in 11 of the team’s 13 games, Johnson is currently averaging 2.8 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Sweeney led the Lady Hawks with 14 points against American this past Saturday at home. Additionally, she ripped away two steals for a team-high and tied for a team-high seven rebounds. Sweeney finished the game 4-for-11 but went 2-of-5 from beyond the arc. Starting every game thus far for UMES, she is currently third with 8.7 points per game with 4.5 rebounds per game.
