CRISFIELD - Theresa E. Evans, 86, affectionately known as "Mother Theresa", went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2008 from the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield with her loving family by her side.

Born on February 7, 1924 in Greenville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Cosmo and Theresa Daniello DiDonato. She married the late John T. "Baby John" Evans Jr. and moved to Crisfield. He later died on June 17, 1994.

A member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Westover, she was employed over the years at the former Mrs. Paul's Kitchens, Rubberset Corporation, and the Crisfield High School Cafeteria.

Known as "Mother Theresa", because of her caring ways, she was always there when you needed her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

Cooking was one of her specialties. She was well known for her spaghetti, meatballs and salad, which she shared with many. The table was always set for friends and family when they stopped by. She enjoyed life, loved to be around family and friends, and loved to dance. She was once featured on the television show "Chesapeake Bay Cooking with John Shields" who said of her, "Crisfield could not ask for a more exuberant and beautiful ambassador to the nation".

She is survived by a son, Robert "Mugsy" Evans and his wife, Carolyn, of Crisfield; a daughter, Toni Maria Tawes and her companion, Fred Nelson, of Crisfield; grandchildren, Laura Howard, Rochelle Simpkins, Troy Evans, Keisha Evans, Anita Evans, and Scotty Tawes; great-grandchildren, Kevin Marshall, Kyle Simpkins, Thomas Simpkins, Nate Evans, Jacob Evans, Simon Evans, Scottie Tawes, Jr., Dylan Hill, Taylor Evans and Jesse Howard; a sister, Louise Tobash; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daugher, Mary Theresa Evans; a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Theresa Howard; four sisters, Mary, Josephine, and Rose Marie DiDonato, and Thelma Sterling; and two brothers, Peter and Anthony DiDonato.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Daniels and Father William Porter officiated. Interment followed in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.

Donations are requested to be sent to the Tawes Nursing Home New Building Fund, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817 or the Tiffany Howard Memorial Scholarship Fund, 6605 Old Westover Marion Road, Westover, MD 21871.

Arrangements were in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home.
