PRINCESS ANNE - I. Theodore "Ted" Phoebus died at his home in Princess Anne on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Born June 13, 1931 in Oriole, he was the son of the late state Sen. Harry Phoebus, Sr. and Vera Beauchamp Phoebus. He attended Somerset County Public Schools until he enrolled at Charlotte Hall Military Academy, where he graduated in 1948. He attended Salisbury State College until 1951 when he enlisted in the Army, serving in the finance division at Fort Meade and later resigned to Germany. Upon his release from the military, he finished his education at University of Baltimore with a degree in Accounting. He managed a family-owned car dealership in Crisfield until 1960 when he left to take a job with the International Department of Hercules Powder Co in Wilmington. He was employed there until being appointed as Clerk of Court of Somerset County. This is the elected office he held for over 51 years, retiring December 1, 2014. He was the longest serving elected official in the State of Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harry Thomas Phoebus; a brother, Harry T. Phoebus Jr. and two sisters, Jean Lynch and Elizabeth Harvey. He is survived by a son, Pete Phoebus; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Antioch Methodist Church in Princess Anne on July 6, 2015. Interment was in St. Andrews Episcopal Cemetery in Princess Anne. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
