Stephen Warren Gurkin

Gurkin, 51 SALISBURY -- Stephen Warren Gurkin, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Coastal Hospice at The Lake. Born in Plymouth, N.C., he was the son of Luther Warren Gurkin III and Jean Pittman Gurkin of Salisbury, and grandson of Luther Warren Gurkin Jr. and Annie Lou Gurkin, and Dan Kelly Pittman and Marguerite Pope Pittman. A 1982 graduate of James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, he attended East Carolina University and was employed by Radio Shack as a sales representative following college. In 1994, he established his own company as sole proprietor and manager of Outer Banks Music in Nags Head, N.C. In 2007, his family relocated to Salisbury, where he was employed by the Wicomico County Board of Education and later at Pepsi-Co Canada Dry as a sales representative. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and active in supporting the Fruitland Little League. In addition to his parents, Stephen is also survived by a daughter, Madison Scott Gurkin; a son, Harmon Miller Gurkin; a sister, Melanie Jean Bossi; and a nephew. A visitation was held at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. A funeral service will be held at Maitland Funeral Home at 306 Latham Avenue, Plymouth, N.C., on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Garden and Cemetery at 213 Roanoke Ave. in Plymouth.
