PRESTON — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announces the online tree seedling catalog is open and accepting orders for spring 2026 planting.

This year’s catalog features more than 50 species of conifers or deciduous trees, with a few different choices from last year, grown at the John S. Ayton Forest Tree Nursery here in Caroline County.

“Our seedling crop is growing very well and we have more than 3 million seedlings available” at nursery.dnr.maryland.gov. “If you are not sure which species are right for your needs, please call your local forestry office,” a DNR spokesperson said. In Somerset County the number is 410-651-2004.

All seedlings purchased are to be planted for conservation, reforestation, lumber and/or cut Christmas tree purposes, and a planting report is to be furnished when requested by the Department of Natural Resources.

“Trees improve the environment and help keep Maryland's waters clean. As our state's canopy spreads, so will benefits for wildlife, for us, and for future generations to come."
