Sandra Lee Thistlewood, of Dover, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 10th, 2025.
Born in Milford, DE, on January 10, 1948, Sandra graduated from Dover High School before pursuing a career in nursing. She earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Milford School of Nursing and later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of Maryland.
For over 50 years, Sandra was a dedicated registered nurse who gave selflessly to her patients and community.
Sandra was also deeply involved in her faith community at Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover, DE, where she served on numerous committees and offered her time and talents to support the church and its members. Her love for her church and her commitment to service were integral parts of who she was.
An avid traveler, Sandra found joy in exploring new places and cultures, always embracing the adventure of discovering something new. She also had a creative spirit and loved making things for others, finding joy in crafting meaningful gifts that brought happiness to those around her. Outside of her career, church life, and passions,
Sandra was especially proud of being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life, and she created countless memories with them that will be treasured forever. She was an avid Phillies fan thru and thru.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim Thistlewood; her daughter, Karen McLellan, and her husband, Anthony; her son, James “Kenny” Thistlewood; her grandchildren, AJ McLellan and Ally McLellan; and her brother, Thomas Seacord, and his wife Kathy, a special aunt and uncle, James and Doris Gillard. She was predeceased by her parents, John R. and Marguerite Seacord.
A funeral service will be held 4:00pm, Friday, August 15th, 2025, at Wesley Church, 209 S. State Street, Dover, Delaware. Friends and family may visit one hour prior, with burial at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover, DE.
Sandra’s legacy of kindness, care, devotion to her faith, love for adventure, and deep affection for her family will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
