Sadie W. Bard, 86 HAMPTON, Va. - Sadie W. Bard, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009. She was a native of Crisfield, Md., and had been a Hampton resident for fifty years. After a twenty-six year career, she retired from the Noland Company as a cost analyst operator. As a faithful and very active member of Liberty Baptist Church, she participated in many social activities, sang in the Heart Throbs Choir, worked on the kitchen committee, and taught Sunday school for over forty years. She enjoyed crafts and hand work including embroidery, crochet, and needlework. Her skills as a seamstress lead her to create and construct many outfits without using sewing patterns, including making dresses for family members for special occasions and gatherings. Preceding her in rest is her beloved husband, Oscar C. Bard, who passed away on Nov. 7, 1980; parents, Elmer C. and Sadie Matthews; and sister and brother, Doris and Clifton. Surviving members of her family include her daughters, Barbara Tyler and husband Terry, Rebecca West and husband Bill, and Marcia Fox; numerous grand and great grandchildren who all referred to her as "Mom – Mom"; sisters, Mary Goldsborough, age 97, and Elva Parks, age 92; and several special nieces. She will be greatly missed by many in her Church family at Liberty Baptist Church and also by the "Hardees Lunch Bunch" which met at the Big Bethel Road location. The family extends a sincere thank you to the many kind and caring nurses and nurse's aids at the Northampton Convalescent Center for the concern and compassion expressed to Mrs. Bard during her time at the center. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family. The family received friends Saturday evening, Nov. 7, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Sadie's life was held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8, at the funeral home with her grandson's acting as pallbearers. Interment followed in Parklawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, "Greater Things" building fund. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton
