CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Ruth Morris Stant, 90, of Cleveland, Tennessee and formerly of Crisfield, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Bradley Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born October 16, 1923 in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth and L. Townsend Waters. "Miss Ruth," as she was affectionately called, enjoyed a fruitful ministry as a credentialed minister and faithful pastor's wife in various Church of God parishes in Maryland, Delaware, Florida, Trinidad, Tobago, and Grenada. While attending Bible Training School (now Lee University), she traveled extensively with the official school trio representing the institution. She was a popular speaker and singer in churches across denominational lines. Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Mary Ruth Morris Stone and son-in-law, Dr. H. Lynn Stone of Cleveland, Tennessee; her grandsons, Dr. Ken Stone of Chicago, Dr. Tim Stone and his wife Tammy Stone of Birmingham, Alabama, David Stone and his wife Stephanie Stone of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Dr. Jonathan Stone and his wife Emily Stone of Cleveland, Tennessee. She was especially proud of her nine great-grandchildren, Jordan, Luke, Ethan, Will, Anna Claire, Eloise, Lillian, Emmett, and Hillary. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Reverend Philip Morris, Sr. and his wife Mary Morris of Salisbury, Maryland; nephews, Pastor Philip Morris, Jr. and his wife Denise of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Dr. Ralph Morris and his wife Muriel of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Jones of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as many other nephews and nieces and a host of friends and loved ones. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Morris, Jr., Bion Cecil, and Alvin Stant; an infant daughter, Nancy Louise Morris; and siblings, Mary Prescott, Lewis Waters, Louise Kratz, Charles Waters, Harold Waters, and Robert Waters. A Remembrance of Life Service was 2 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Crisfield Church of God. Interment followed in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marion Station with grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bradshaw and Sons Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Ralph Morris Scholarship Fund at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary or the William F. and Bernice Morris Family Scholarship Fund at Lee University.
